Unleashed - Where No Life Dwells

Where No Life Dwells escapes the common pitfalls of Swedish Death Metal of the era by replacing the focus on rhymthic expectation (ie thrash beats, bouncy groove-laden riffing, riff-salad approaches to song-writing) to something more based in melodic development. Songs here ooze with dark energy and potency. As it becomes aware more and more throughout the album, Unleashed were not scared to slow down the tempo and experiment with melodic sections, seething with doom and gloom, and morbid substance. These add a certain dynamism and impact to the music.

This is a great example of the existentialist feel towards life and death, as emphasised by the Scandinavians in comparison to the alienated, post-technocratic feel of the American breed.
