Mystic Places of Dawn is perhaps one of the more diverse (without relying on aesthetic novelty) albums in extreme metal. Septic Flesh combine the circularity of heavy metal with death metal phrasing, melody, chord progressions and rhythm concepts. The album is also not afraid to experiment directly with ambient spacing and technique (whether directly as per the brilliant closer, or indirectly within the other songs). The composition has so much depth, and there is a great level of continuity within the tracks and their ordering on the album, the album has brilliant closure through the eerie (Morpheus) The Dreamworld and the moving ambient closer Mythos. The album has a deep respect for Greek heritage and ancient mythology and this combined with its stunning, precise and well-trained execution provide a superb listening experience. An enlightening journey into the mystic places of dawn, indeed.
