Emperor
In the Nightside Eclipse (1995)
Emperor project transcendence through cosmic awe and a feeling of utter alienation within the endless depths of the universe.
In The Nightside Eclipse provides a fork in the path as far as (Norwegian) Black Metal is concerned. Although, still heavily influenced by Bathory and to a lesser extent Celtic Frost, Emperor diverge from the minimalist, raw ambient stylings of the other Inner Circle bands and play a free-flowing, more lavishly arranged style, replete with keyboards, perhaps a little like a mirco-symphony. Yet it is still feral and vicious. Like a sorcerer of the black arts Emperor weave majestic tapestries that capture the cosmos in all of its splendour, layering it with darkness & unknown magic; a study of the vast worlds beyond our reckoning.
Hear the whispering of the wind
the shadows calling...
I gaze into the moon which grants me visions
these twelve full moon nights of the year
and for each night the light of the holy disciples fade away
Weaker and weaker, one by one
I gaze into the moon which makes my mind pure as crystal lakes
my eyes cold as the darkest winter nights
but yet there is a flame inside
It guides me into the dark shadows beyond this world
into the infinity of thoughts...
