...Majestic In Thou Ruin (1995)

Dusk - ...Majestic Thou in Ruin

Best approached as minimalist ambient music.

An extremely thick, low rumbling guitar tone swamps the listener, surrounding them in a cavernous, pitch black world of terror via slow riffing that barely feels like it is grinding along with any momentum. Think of the bleak, crushing riffing of Winter (and bands influenced by them like Rippikoulu) played at much slower tempos. But this is more oppressive and devoid of any sign of hope than even those two bands.

Occasionally strange, unexplained passages appear from within these confines, lurking in the depths of this hell. Whilst the keyboards or guitar arpeggios in these lumbering sections are not distorted heavily, they are sickly and warped, oozing with some kind of ancient curse. Almost like the mournful sorrows of an underground race were buried miles beneath the earth and are doomed to reverberate here forever, with no chance of their echoes ever escaping this chamber.

The atmosphere is one of suffocation, anxiety and claustrophobia - a never ending barrage of darkness that feels like it is slowly closing in. There is something not explainable down here. Such is the feeling of ominous horror that pervades this music.
